Hamas Rejects US Attempts to Interfere in the Palestinian Settlement Process

02 November 2023

The Palestinian movement Hamas vehemently rejects US efforts to interfere in the Palestinian settlement process, as stated in an official statement published on its Telegram channel.

"We unequivocally declare our rejection of overt US intervention aimed at imposing a new situation that serves their interests and the Zionist occupation in the Gaza Strip," they stated. "The resolution of the Palestinian situation must be a decision made by the Palestinian people alone, as they have the exclusive right to determine their destiny, future, and interests," emphasized Hamas in their statement.

The Palestinian movement Hamas issued this statement in response to remarks made by John Kirby, the coordinator for strategic communications in the National Security Council of the White House. During a hearing before the US Senate Appropriations Committee on October 30, Kirby emphasized that a return to the pre-conflict status quo, which would entail Hamas returning to govern in Gaza, is unacceptable.

The situation in the Middle East has become highly volatile since Hamas militants infiltrated Israel from the Gaza Strip on October 7. Hamas framed this attack as a response to Israeli actions surrounding the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. In response, Israel imposed a complete blockade on the Gaza Strip and launched retaliatory strikes on the territory, as well as on parts of Lebanon and Syria. Concurrently, clashes have erupted in the West Bank.
