Hamas Reports at Least 195 Casualties in Strikes on Jabalia Camp

02 November 2023

The Palestinian movement Hamas has reported that Israeli airstrikes on the Jabalia refugee camp in the northern Gaza Strip killed 195 on Tuesday and Wednesday. It is estimated that around 120 individuals are still trapped beneath the rubble, and 777 people have sustained injuries, according to a statement released by Hamas. The information was shared on the Palestinian enclave's government Facebook page (which is banned in Russia, owned by Meta Corporation, and recognized as extremist in Russia).

On October 31, the Hamas-controlled Health Ministry in the Gaza Strip revealed that a series of Israeli airstrikes had targeted the Jabalia refugee camp, killing at least 50 individuals. The director of a nearby Indonesian hospital corroborated this information. Later, the Palestinian Interior Ministry reported that the number of casualties, both dead and wounded, had surpassed 400, with half of them being children.

The Israel Defense Forces press office confirmed the airstrike on Jabalia. Israeli army spokesman Jonathan Conricus explained that the strike was aimed at an underground compound where Ibrahim Biari, a commander of a Hamas militant unit, was located. Conricus further stated that Biari, who was killed in the attack, played a significant role in planning Hamas's attack on Israel on October 7.
