The first President of the Republic of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev is one of the architects of the modern statehood model of the republic and has influenced the formation of the statehood of new Russia. Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov expressed this opinion on Thursday in his congratulations to Shaimiev on his 85th birthday.
"You led Tatarstan during a crucial period of socio-economic and socio-political transformations. In this difficult time, your wise and well-thought-out policy allowed you to lead the republic through an abyss of problems and challenges and to preserve the potential accumulated by the previous generations. Under your leadership a set of socioeconomic programs were implemented, thanks to which Tatarstan has become one of the leading and dynamically developing subjects of the Russian Federation," the congratulatory message reads.
Minnikhanov emphasized that Shaimiev was one of the architects of the modern model of statehood in the Republic of Tatarstan; he also contributed to the establishment of statehood in Russia and strengthening the foundations of its federalism and democracy. According to Minnikhanov, political will, leadership talent, and the ability to unite and mobilize a team of like-minded people were the foundation of the first president of the republic's success.
"Having established a constructive dialogue between all institutions of civil society, you ensured interethnic and inter-confessional peace and civil accord, which became a competitive advantage of Tatarstan, a guarantee of its attractiveness," said Minnikhanov.
He noted the merits of the first president of the republic in building cooperation of Russia and Tatarstan with UNESCO. His assistance made it possible to include historical, architectural and archaeological complexes of the Kazan Kremlin, Bolgar, the shrines of the island-town of Sviyazhsk into the UNESCO World Heritage List. On Shaimiev's initiative, the Bulgarian Islamic Academy was created and the Cathedral of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God was restored.
" The system of multilingual general education complexes "Adymnar - the path to knowledge and harmony" created by you is unique. It is in this project that your qualities handed down from your parents were manifested: a careful attitude to the culture and language of your people, as well as respect for the culture of other peoples," said Minnikhanov.
