Turkmen president Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov and Russian deputy prime minister Alexei Overchuk discussed Thursday in Ashgabat the prospects of cooperation between the two countries and noted its great potential, the Turkmen state news agency TDH reported.
"During the meeting, held in a businesslike, constructive manner, the head of state and the Russian deputy prime minister discussed the current state and prospects of cooperation, noting the great potential for the intensification of cooperation in key areas, including trade, economic and fuel and energy sectors, agriculture, chemical and processing industries, transport and communications and a number of other priority areas," the agency reports.
The Russian deputy prime minister conveyed greetings from Russian prime minister Mikhail Mishustin, who wished Berdymukhamedov and, through him, the Turkmen people peace and prosperity, the agency says. Alexei Overchuk also congratulated the head of state on the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's independence. In sending his best wishes to the Russian leadership, the Turkmen president noted the achieved level of the interstate relations, built on a solid foundation of the strategic partnership that meets the interests of the two neighboring nations, the TDH noted. "For our part, we will work hard to implement these guidelines, so that the relations become even stronger and the range of interaction between the two countries is constantly expanding," Overchuk said.
During the meeting, mutual interest was expressed in the activation of interstate relations in the cultural and humanitarian sphere, including through science and education, in the field of sports. Berdymukhamedov and Overchuk expressed confidence in strengthening the traditional bonds of friendship and multifaceted cooperation built on bilateral and multilateral basis, primarily within international organizations and regional bodies. During the meeting, special emphasis was placed on the issues of partnership in the fight against coronavirus infection, including the exchange of experience among specialized structures.
The Russian deputy prime minister expressed gratitude to the head of Turkmenistan for his special attention to the promotion of mutually beneficial interstate cooperation, built on a long-term perspective. "As noted, it is the name of president Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov that is associated in Russia with a very positive and responsible stage in relations between the two countries, open to a trusting and mutually respectful dialogue," the TDH agency notes.
