A meeting of the high-level inter-parliamentary commission of Russia and Turkey will be held in early 2023 in Moscow with the participation of Chairman of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Mustafa Sentop, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin told reporters following a meeting with Sentop in Ankara on Tuesday.
"We have agreed with our colleague-chairman that during his visit to Russia, which will take place early next year, there will be a meeting of the established high-level commission, joint between our parliaments," Volodin said.
He stressed that parliamentarians will begin immediate preparations for the meeting to ensure the opportunity "to consider issues of topical agenda, of concern to our citizens, in the interests of developing relations between our states."
The speaker added that the pandemic has not only affected the health of citizens and the economies of the countries, but also "caused great damage to inter-parliamentary communications."
"The pandemic first of all halted the work of the dialogue platforms. Communications within our friendship groups and other formats have gone into a different mode, but no matter how modern the means of communication are, they will not replace direct communication. <...> Therefore, this new format [of the commission meeting] we will try to implement as quickly as possible in order to fill the pause that we had in our relations because of the pandemic," stressed Volodin.
