The talks with the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Raphael Grossi, took place in Tehran in a constructive manner, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Ali Akbar Salehi stated on Tuesday.
"The negotiations with Grossi were constructive. It was decided that the Agency would perform its work professionally and impartially, and we will act within our obligations, " Tasnim quoted him as saying.
Salehi added that "with the arrival of Grossi [as the Agency's Director General], a new chapter of cooperation between Iran and the IAEA begins." "I hope that the results of [Grossi's visit to Tehran] will be beneficial to both sides," he said.
In turn, Grossi said after talks with Salehi that the IAEA agreed to expand cooperation with Iran.
"The Agency's approach has not changed, our cooperation continues, and we have agreed to expand it," Grossi was quoted as saying by ISNA.
He added that "Tehran and the IAEA work closely and actively in terms of inspections and teams [of specialists] from the Agency that visit Iran."
Earlier, Grossi wrote on Twitter that he was going to Tehran to meet with the Iranian authorities and discuss the accumulated issues when interacting with Iran. According to him, he needs to establish a dialogue for cooperation with Iran.
On Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Saeed Khatibzadeh said that Grossi was scheduled to meet with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.
