The Iranian permanent mission to the UN will send official letters to the Secretary-General of the organization, as well as to the Security Council, outlining the details of the incident with the interception of the Iranian airliner, the IRI mission told RIA Novosti.
The day before, a US air force F-15 plane came dangerously close to the Mahan Air Board in the el-Tanf area over the territory of Syria, where US troops are located.
The pilot of the passenger vessel tried to avoid the collision, which caused several people to be injured. The plane landed in Beirut, disembarked passengers, refueled, and then returned to Tehran.
The Pentagon said that "professional interception was conducted in accordance with international standards." After the F-15 pilot identified the aircraft as a passenger plane, the fighter moved away to a safe distance, the Agency said.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry said that the country's authorities are studying the circumstances of the incident. Tehran noted that it would take the necessary political and legal measures as soon as it receives additional information.
As indicated in the Iranian permanent mission to the UN, on Thursday, the Iranian Ambassador Majid Takht-Ravanchi held an emergency telephone conversation with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
"We will send an official letter to the UN Secretary-General and the UN Security Council about the details of this incident and ask them to take action," the source said.
