07 November 2023

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi is set to sign several cooperation agreements with his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rahmon during his visit to Tajikistan, according to the ISNA news agency.

Following their bilateral meeting, the two presidents will participate in a meeting with representatives of economic sectors and businessmen from both countries. Discussions will revolve around cooperation in trade and economic domains, as well as the international situation, particularly in the Gaza Strip.

Upon signing cooperation agreements across various sectors, Raisi and Rahmon will travel together to Uzbekistan to attend the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) summit in Tashkent. The details of these planned agreements were not provided by the agency.

Earlier, on November 7, the press service of the Tajik leader informed a TASS correspondent that after their bilateral meeting in Dushanbe, the presidents of Tajikistan and Iran intend to participate in the ECO summit in the Uzbek capital. Raisi's visit to the Tajik capital was rescheduled to begin on November 8 instead of the previously planned date of November 7.

The sixteenth ECO summit will take place from November 8-9 in Tashkent. The event will focus on expanding trade, economic, investment, transport, communication, and humanitarian cooperation, as well as enhancing the work of the interstate organization, which was established in 1985.

The ECO's member countries include Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, and Uzbekistan, with its permanent secretariat located in Tehran.
