Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister, stated that it is legally conceivable to impose the death penalty on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for alleged war crimes. The remark was reported by PressTV, referencing the official website of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
“We need to explore the possibility of establishing a court with two or three like-minded nations that support the Palestinian people. Within such a court, decisions of this nature could be issued,” Gharibabadi said. “In my opinion, there is nothing impossible about this. It is achievable if efforts are made.”
On November 21, the International Criminal Court (ICC) announced arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. They are accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed between October 8, 2023, and May 20, 2024, in Palestinian territories, including Gaza.
The ICC’s pre-trial chamber determined that both men bear criminal responsibility for acts such as murder, persecution, and other inhumane actions, as well as intentionally subjecting civilians to starvation as a method of warfare.
