The summit of the heads of the guarantor countries of the Astana process should be held in the format of a videoconference in the near future, the official representative of the Iranian Foreign Ministry Abbas Mousavi told on Monday at a press conference.
"We will soon hold a video conference with the Turkish and Russian sides," he said.
At the same time, Mousavi clarified that "a personal meeting [of the heads of Russia, Iran and Turkey] remains on the agenda." According to him, this is possible if the situation with the coronavirus in the world improves.
On April 22, Foreign Ministers of Iran, Russia and Turkey Mohammad Javad Zarif, Sergey Lavrov and Mevlut Cavusoglu held a conference call. During the meeting, the parties confirmed that the next round of talks on the Syrian settlement in the Astana format will be held on Iranian territory. On the same day, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani supported the idea of holding a video summit proposed by Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan during a telephone conversation.
The last round of negotiations in the Astana format was held on December 10-11, 2019 in Nur-Sultan. The next meeting was scheduled for March.
