Iran has vehemently condemned the actions of the Israel Defense Forces in Syria, specifically the attack that resulted in the death of Iranian military adviser General Reza Mousavi. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani stated, "During its miserable existence, constantly denying and violating international rules and regulations, the Zionist regime [State of Israel] has committed many crimes... here it has again committed a cowardly terrorist act."
Kanani also emphasized that Iran reserves the right to take necessary retaliatory measures and respond to Israel's actions at the appropriate time and place.
The incident occurred on December 25 when Iranian General Reza Mousavi was killed in an Israeli air force attack in the Shiite neighborhood of Sitt Zaynab in southern Damascus. Three rockets were fired at his residence. General Mousavi played a crucial role in coordinating Shiite militias supporting the Syrian government army, leading operations against terrorist groups like the "Islamic State" (IS, banned in Russia) in the Syrian desert. He was also involved in battles against insurgent factions in Eastern Ghouta and western Aleppo. Al Mayadeen reported that General Mousavi had survived several previous assassination attempts.
