Iranian Parliament Member Calls President's Proposal to Move Capital Feasible

13 September

Seyed Rouhollah Mousavi, a member of the Internal Policy Committee of Iran's Majlis, has described the proposal to move Iran's capital from Tehran as feasible, despite the significant complexity and financial costs involved.

“The process of relocating the capital is indeed labor-intensive, complicated, and requires substantial funding. However, if the necessary groundwork is properly prepared, it is achievable,” Mousavi said in an interview with ILNA. He suggested that relocating some ministries to regions where relevant industries are concentrated could be beneficial, and moving steel manufacturing facilities closer to the coast might address their substantial water needs.

On September 7, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian highlighted the urgency of relocating the capital to the Persian Gulf coast. The president noted that Tehran is currently facing issues that cannot be resolved through conventional means.
