Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has expressed his country's willingness to serve as a mediator in resolving the conflict in Ukraine. He made this statement during a meeting with American foreign policy experts and journalists in New York.
"We are firmly against the war in Ukraine and stand ready to act as mediators to bring about its resolution. However, the conflict persists, funded by American taxpayers, with their money flowing into the coffers of arms manufacturers. We strongly recommend that the US authorities cease military actions, as over the past 250 years, Americans haven't been involved in armed conflicts for only 20 of those [years]," the ISNA news agency quoted him as saying. The Iranian leader also reiterated the denial of any Iranian arms deliveries to the Russian Federation.
Iran has consistently maintained its stance against a military resolution to the conflict in Ukraine. This position was reiterated on August 7 by the official spokesperson of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Nasser Kanani, who highlighted Tehran's numerous efforts to bring an end to the military hostilities. Additionally, Iranian Foreign Minister Hosein Amir Abdollahian emphasized earlier on the same day that Iran does not provide weapons or drones to Russia. He pointed out that the supply of weapons from Europe and the United States only leads to further destruction and loss of life.
Both Moscow and Tehran have repeatedly denied allegations of Iranian drones being furnished to Russia for use in Ukraine. Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov dismissed such claims as unfounded and emphasized that the Russian military exclusively deploys domestically manufactured aircraft. In November 2022, Iran's foreign minister did acknowledge that Iran had indeed supplied drones to Russia, but in limited quantities and several months prior to the commencement of the special military operation in Ukraine.
