Iran's UN Envoy Vows Response to Israel Under UN Charter

29 October

Iran will respond to Israel's attack in line with its right to self-defense, as outlined in the UN Charter, stated Amir Saeid Iravani, Iran’s permanent representative to the United Nations.

"As a sovereign state, the Islamic Republic of Iran holds the inherent right to respond to this act of aggression at its discretion, a right enshrined in Article 51 of the UN Charter (the right to individual or collective self-defense)," Iravani said, according to IRNA. "Our legitimate response will fully comply with international law," he added.

The diplomat emphasized Iran’s firm condemnation of Israel's actions, describing them as "a blatant and dangerous violation of international law and the UN Charter, especially the principle of refraining from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or sovereignty of other states."

Iravani also stated that Israel's "systematic disregard for international law, its aggression toward Iran, and its actions in Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen pose a threat to global peace and security." He urged the UN Security Council to take decisive action to condemn these actions unconditionally.
