Charter flights to Egypt may be resumed this year

Denis Manturov, Russian minister of Industry and Trade, met with Egyptian counterpart Amr Nassar, Minister of Commerce, on the margins of the International Economic forum in St. Petersburg.

This meeting was about bilateral cooperation, in particular about the possibility of starting charter flights between 2 countries and supplying Russian aircraft to Egypt. Denis Manturov claimed that agreements may come into force already this year.

“As soon as charter flights are launched, we will return to a substantive discussion on the supply of our aircraft,” he informed journalists. “It will be hard to say when exactly this will happen, but we hope that this year.”

The air link between Egypt and Russia was interrupted after the crash of the Kogalymavia airline in Sinai in 2015. There were 217 passengers and 7 crew members on the board of the plane flying from Sharm el-Sheikh to St. Petersburg. They all died.
