Kazakh and Kyrgyz premiers express readiness to strengthen strategic partnership

Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov during a telephone conversation with the chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Zhaparov expressed his willingness to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries. This was reported Wednesday by the press service of the Kazakh prime minister.


"Zhaparov congratulated Smailov on his appointment to the post of the prime minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, wishing a speedy restoration of stability in Kazakhstan and the successful solution of the problems of socio-economic development of the country. The two sides expressed their readiness to further strengthen strategic partnership," the statement said.


According to Smailov, "the government of Kazakhstan remains firmly committed to the course of deepening strategic partnership with the fraternal Kyrgyz Republic". The meeting also discussed issues of bilateral trade and economic cooperation.


On January 11, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev approved the new government headed by Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov. The heads of the ministry of foreign affairs, the ministry of defense and the ministry of internal affairs retained their positions; the heads of the ministry of energy, the ministry of justice and several other ministries were replaced. Tokayev instructed the new government to implement sweeping reforms, including in the economic and banking sectors.
