Kazakh authorities claim stabilization of the situation in the country

The situation in Kazakhstan after the riots at the beginning of January has been fully stabilized and law and order have been restored, President of the Republic Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who chaired a meeting of the Security Council, said on Thursday.


"Chairman of the Security Council Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stressed that the situation in the country is now fully stabilized and law and order have been restored. All measures are being taken to increase the level of protection of individuals, society, and the state," the press service of the president said in a report.


According to the press service, Tokayev also instructed to immediately start taking concrete measures for strengthening all aspects of national security.


The president noted that all state agencies need to learn lessons from the events, and the modernized national security system must be ready to meet the challenges of any complexity. "We must take measures so that criminals and terrorists can no longer take over our cities, infringe on the peaceful lives of citizens and their families, and threaten statehood. That's what the readjustment of the national security system is aimed at," the head of state explained.


In addition, he stressed that all the structures responsible for the security should change their work, with a balanced interaction between the government agencies.


In early January, there were mass disorders in Kazakhstan, their participants attacked the police and military. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced an attempted coup d'etat. By January 7 the situation stabilized, the state of emergency was lifted all over the country on January 19. According to the authorities, as a result of these events, 225 people were killed, more than 4.5 thousand were injured.
