President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has expressed the hope that a ceasefire in Ukraine will be reached in the near future, the press service of the Kazakh leader reported.
"We very much hope that a ceasefire in Ukraine will be reached in the near future, and we will be able to talk about establishing a lasting peace in this part of the world. As for Kazakhstan, we are ready to make our best contribution to achieving this goal," Tokayev told a press conference following his meeting with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Astana.
He noted that Kazakhstan and Russia are strategic partners. "We are members of the same organizations. Therefore, our goal is to maintain close contact with Russia in order to strengthen our mutual cooperation both on a bilateral basis and in relevant international organizations," the president of Kazakhstan explained.
Tokayev once again outlined Kazakhstan's position on the situation around Ukraine. "First, we must strictly follow the Charter of the United Nations and in general, of course, we must support the UN as an indispensable and universal organization in the world. Secondly, we also need to support all the peace initiatives that have been voiced by China as well as other states," he explained.
