Kazakhstan is grateful to Russia for its help in the fight against the coronavirus, Yermek Kosherbayev, the Republic's Ambassador to Russia, said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

"I would like to thank the Russian side for the medical assistance provided in the fight against this insidious virus. At the most difficult moment, we feel the support of our strategic ally and partner," the Ambassador said.

During the first months of the fight against COVID-19, Rospotrebnadzor sent the Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan 2,000 tests to detect the coronavirus, as well as kits of reagents for RNA/DNA isolation from the clinical material "RIBOT-prep" in the amount necessary for 30 thousand studies, the Ambassador said.

He noted that in the new conditions, Kazakhstan and Russia, as the closest neighbors and allies, not only adequately resist the common threat, but also were able to organize an effective joint fight against the negative consequences of the coronavirus.

"Our cooperation in the evacuation of citizens of Kazakhstan and Russia from countries with a problematic epidemiological situation by both Kazakh and Russian planes, close cooperation in the field of health care is particularly significant," the Ambassador said.

On March 11, the World Health Organization declared the outbreak of a new COVID-19 coronavirus infection a pandemic. According to the latest WHO data, more than 8.8 million cases of infection have been identified in the world, and more than 465 thousand people  died.
