Kazakhstan intends to continue cooperation with Russia on the widespread use of the Sputnik V vaccine in the republic. This was announced to journalists on Thursday by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mukhtar Tleuberdi after talks with Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov, who arrived in Nur-Sultan on a working visit.
“We will continue our cooperation with the Russian side on the widespread use of the Sputnik V vaccine in our country”, Tleuberdi said.
He also agreed with Lavrov that so-called “vaccine protectionism” in international relations is unacceptable. “As you know, Kazakhstan has already begun vaccinating its population. Therefore, we are open to the use of all the vaccines that have proven their effectiveness, passed all stages of testing”, the Head of Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry said.
On 1 February, Kazakhstan started vaccinating the population against coronavirus using the Sputnik V vaccine, which is produced in Russia. At the end of the month, the shipment of Sputnik V produced in the Republic – at the Karaganda pharmaceutical complex – to the regions of the country began. From the second quarter of this year, the Kazakh vaccine QazCovid-in, which is currently undergoing the third phase of clinical trials, will join the vaccination process.
