Kremlin assessed the protest action in Vladikavkaz

21 April 2020

The protest in Vladikavkaz against the self-isolation regime was illegal, the Kremlin's official representative Dmitry Peskov announced.

"In any case, this action was illegal," he said, adding that such events can have negative consequences from an epidemiological point of view.

"People gathered together, clearly not observing any social distances. In this regard, this may have negative consequences after a certain number of days. This is obvious to everyone," Peskov said.

Meanwhile, the Press Secretary of the Russian state refused to give assessments of such events, since it is not within his competence.

"It is obvious that the local leadership will have to discuss this with the initiative group. If I am not mistaken, the initiative group has been defined," he said, expressing hope that within this mechanism people would be able to bring their position to the attention of the region's leadership.

The meeting at the Government House in the center of Vladikavkaz demanding to cancel the self-isolation regime was held the day before. 177 cases of infection with a new coronavirus were recorded in the Republic, two people died.
