The Kyrgyz border guard units deployed on the border with Tajikistan have been shifted to a reinforced regime. This was announced by the Border Guard Service (BGS) of the State Committee on National Security (SCNS) of Kyrgyzstan on Wednesday.
"Subdivisions of the SCNS BGS stationed in the Batken region have been transferred to a reinforced version of the service. The border guard service monitors and controls the situation in the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border," it said.
According to the border service, on Wednesday, delegations of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are expected to hold a meeting about the April 12 incident with the use of weapons in the Selkana village of the Leilek District, Batken Province, Kyrgyzstan.
The conflict between the border guards of the two countries began on April 12 after Tajik soldiers penetrated 20 meters into Kyrgyz territory near the Selkana village. During the day, the two sides opened fire twice. In addition, Kyrgyzstan reported mortar fire from Tajikistan into the Kyrgyz village of Dostuk in the Batken region.
On Wednesday night, the two sides agreed to withdraw additional forces and equipment from the zone of confrontation. According to the Kyrgyz side, two citizens of the republic and at least one citizen of Tajikistan were wounded during the conflict. Kyrgyz authorities were forced to evacuate 644 people from border villages of the republic for security reasons.
