Around 80 servicemen from Kyrgyzstan’s National Guard will take part in the upcoming military parade in Moscow, marking the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. This was reported by the press service of the Kyrgyz National Guard to TASS.
"Approximately 80 servicemen from the National Guard’s honor guard unit will participate in the Victory Parade in Russia’s capital," a spokesperson stated.
The exact departure date for the Kyrgyz contingent has not yet been determined.
"They are currently engaged in ceremonial duties in Kyrgyzstan but are already undergoing training," the source added.
Kyrgyz servicemen have traditionally participated in Victory Day celebrations. During the Great Patriotic War around 360,000 people from Kyrgyzstan—then a republic with a population of about one million—were sent to the front lines. Nearly one in three lost their lives in battle. Today, only 15 veterans remain in Kyrgyzstan.
One of the war’s most legendary units, General Ivan Panfilov’s division, was composed of soldiers from Kyrgyzstan and neighboring Kazakhstan. The division became famous for its bravery during the Battle of Moscow in 1941-1942. In recent years, Kyrgyz authorities decided to restore the "Panfilov Division," which is now part of the country’s Armed Forces.
