Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov has expressed his confidence in the rallies taking place in the country and has stated that he does not intend to avoid or hide from their participants.
"We are not afraid of rallies. I am not one of those who will run away or hide after seeing those who came to the rally to realize their personal interests," Zhaparov said in an interview with the republic's state news agency Kabar.
He acknowledged that he might feel fear if he had "robbed the state," appointed his family and friends to significant positions, or led the state into crisis. "On the contrary, my team and I are working hard day and night. We have barely pulled the country out of the swamp," the Kyrgyz leader continued, highlighting that the republic has halted systemic embezzlement in the customs and tax spheres in recent years, and the state budget has increased almost three times.
Simultaneously, the Kyrgyz president emphasized that the majority of the population supports the development course pursued by his team.
In the past week, several rallies in support of former officials detained on suspicion of corruption schemes have been held in Kyrgyzstan. Participants in these rallies demand an end to the persecution of the former state officials, viewing their detention as political persecution.
