Kyrgyzstan's special services have neutralized a group that was planning a violent seizure of power in the country. This was reported by the press center of the State Committee for National Security (GKNB) of the republic.
"The GKNB, as part of ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of citizens and protect the constitutional order, has thwarted the illegal activities of a destructive group that was plotting to violently seize power and destabilize the socio-political situation in the country through organizing mass riots, which could have led to civilian casualties," the statement reads.
As part of the criminal investigation, five individuals have been detained and placed in the GKNB temporary detention facility. Their names are not being disclosed in the interest of the investigation. "It has been established that this group consisted of individuals who support criminal ideologies and fanatically adhere to certain religious ideologies," the press center noted.
During the search, the suspects were found in possession of "components for improvised explosive devices," firearms, ammunition, radios, bulletproof vests, law enforcement uniforms, drones, extremist literature, and "other prohibited items."
"Further investigative and operational measures are currently underway. More detailed information will be provided later," assured the GKNB.
