The Kyrgyz party finds the situation on the border with Tajikistan relatively stable and no new incidents are recorded. This was reported Thursday by the Border Service of the Kyrgyzstan's State National Security Committee.
"The situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border is characterized as relatively stable. The night was quiet and no incidents were recorded. Working commissions of the parties continue measures to de-escalate the situation and verify the implementation of agreements on the withdrawal of additional forces and equipment from the state border to the places of their permanent deployment," the report says.
"The work on the detection, clearing and deactivation of unexploded shells, mines, ammunition and other explosive devices in the border areas continues," the Border Guard Service noted. Demining of the conflict zone started on September 20.
The situation on the border between the two countries escalated on September 14. According to the Kyrgyz side, on Wednesday, Tajik border guards entered the border section near Bulak-Bashy area of Batken district of Batken region of Kyrgyzstan and "took combat positions." In response to a demand to leave the territory, the Tajik border guards opened fire, followed by an exchange of fire.
On September 17, the Kyrgyz border service reported firing in the Osh region. Kyrgyz authorities evacuated about 140,000 citizens from the border villages.
Since September 18, the Kyrgyz border guard service had not reported any new incidents, and on September 19, the heads of the State National Security Committees of the two countries signed a protocol on withdrawal of troops from the border and establishing peace. On the Kyrgyz side, 59 people were killed and about 200 injured in the conflict.
