Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Tuesday during a telephone conversation discussed the current situation in Nagorno-Karabakh.
"The current situation in Nagorno-Karabakh was discussed taking into account the efforts made by the Russian side to achieve a complete ceasefire in the conflict zone, as well as the need for humanitarian assistance to civilians affected by the hostilities," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
The Foreign Ministers also expressed their commitment to the early return of all participants in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action for the Iranian Nuclear Programme (JCPOA) to fulfill their obligations.
"Special attention is paid to the interaction between Russia and Iran in international platforms on other topics, including the issues of the JCPOA on Iran's nuclear program, - said the diplomatic mission. - The commitment of Moscow and Tehran to the early return of all the participants of the JCPOA to the full implementation of all their obligations under this agreement, approved by UNSC Resolution 2231, was emphasized".
The ministers also exchanged views on other key topics, including the situation in Syria, the Gulf region, Yemen and Afghanistan.
Lavrov and Zarif reviewed current Russian-Iranian projects with a focus on trade, economic and humanitarian areas, the diplomatic mission said. "It is agreed to continue dialogue on a full range of issues of mutual interest," the ministry concluded.
As previously reported in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, the scheduled for November 23 meeting of foreign ministers of Russia and Iran was postponed to a later date, the new date of negotiations would be announced later. The Iranian Foreign Ministry specified that the postponement of Zarif's visit to Russia was associated with an urgent program of the Iranian government to hold budget meetings in the coming week, where the presence of all ministers was mandatory.
