Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Hissein Brahim Taha, Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), underscored the strong ties between Russia and the member states of the OIC. This was outlined in a statement released on the OIC website.
Both sides emphasized the value of the “special relations and friendship” shared between Russia and OIC countries, expressing a mutual desire to enhance cooperation, especially given Russia's status as an observer within the organization.
The meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the Russia-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Strategic Dialogue in Riyadh, focused on regional and global challenges, including the Palestinian issue and the conditions facing Muslim communities around the world. Both parties highlighted the importance of joint efforts to address these concerns.
On September 9, Lavrov took part in the Russia-GCC Strategic Dialogue meeting. In addition to his participation in the event, Lavrov held bilateral meetings with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, as well as Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira, both of whom were in Riyadh for separate meetings with GCC ministers.
