Lavrov assessed the influence of Armenian elections results on Karabakh situation

The parliamentary elections in Armenia have just taken place, so it's too early to speak about the influence of their results on the situation in Karabakh, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Monday at a press conference following talks with OSCE Secretary-General Helga Schmid.

"The elections have just taken place. It is not yet clear how these results will affect the political life under the new conditions. Let's wait until there is a government," he said when asked how the election results in Armenia would affect the stability of the region.

"We at least assume that the trilateral agreement which ended the war, as well as the second trilateral agreement which launched the process of agreeing on specific forms of opening all economic activities and lifting the blockade, they work and are in the interests of all parties involved," the minister added.

Schmid supported Lavrov's position: "The elections have just taken place. We are awaiting the publication of the observers' full report, so let's wait until the government is formed, and then we'll make assessments."

Extraordinary parliamentary elections were held in Armenia on Sunday. According to CEC data after processing ballots from all polling stations, Nikol Pashinyan's party "Civic Contract" got 53.92% and Robert Kocharyan's bloc "Armenia" - 21.04%. Ex-President Serzh Sargsyan's "I Have Honor" bloc scored 5.23%. The turnout at the elections was 49.4%.
