Russia is concerned about the unstable situation in Afghanistan, the terrorist group Islamic State (banned in Russia) is trying to use it as a springboard to penetrate into Central Asian countries, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.
"The Russian Federation is concerned that despite the launch of the inter-Afghan negotiation process in Doha, the situation in Afghanistan is unstable. We all agree that the IS group, which aims to strengthen its influence, including in Afghanistan's northern provinces with the aim of turning this territory into a springboard for expansion into Central Asian states, is a significant factor in Afghanistan's deteriorating situation," the minister said at a press conference following talks with his Afghan counterpart.
