Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov briefed the heads of Arab diplomatic missions and the Arab League office accredited in Moscow on Friday in detail on Russia's assessments of the situation in and around Ukraine and the development of a special military operation to protect the Donbass republics.

"The ambassadors were briefed in detail on our assessments of the situation in and around Ukraine, as well as on the development of a special military operation to protect the Donbass republics," the Russian foreign ministry said in a statement following the meeting. - "The Russian foreign minister gave detailed explanations on the issues of interest to the Arab diplomats, related to ensuring the security of civilians in Ukraine, including foreign nationals, organization of humanitarian corridors and assistance to refugees".

The Russian foreign ministry also noted that Lavrov stressed that the countries of the collective West were waging an open economic war against Russia, exerting unprecedented sanctions pressure, blatantly violating all norms of international law.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in response to an appeal for help from the leaders of the Donbass republics. He stressed that Moscow does not plan to occupy Ukrainian territories; the goal is to demilitarize and denazify the country.
