Lavrov called unscrupulous Russia's accusations of violation of obligations in the CSTO

Accusations of Russia's betrayal of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) obligations in connection with the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh are unscrupulous. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in an interview with RT TV channel, the text of which was posted on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry on Thursday.

"You see how unscrupulously, including in our Russian political environment, this situation is commented. Some of our analysts directly accuse us of betraying our obligations under the Collective Security Treaty. First of all, I don't think that people, and I know their names, are just politically illiterate, legally uneducated. Secondly, they can't help but know that the CSTO's obligations apply exclusively to the joint defense of a CSTO member country from external aggression, which of course has not happened with Armenia. There are many such examples. I leave them on the authors' conscience abroad and in the Russian Federation," Lavrov said.

The minister stressed that Russia had no desire to earn political points and authority in the situation with the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. "We take philosophically the way they try to interpret the November 9 agreement and Russia's role in its achievement. The positions are absolutely diametrically opposed. On the one hand: "Russia has almost deceived everyone and has become the main beneficiary. And at the other pole - "Russia has betrayed its allies," he added.

According to Lavrov, now all the means, including frank twitching of facts, have become good for the "recorded opposition". The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that Russia would continue to work on the implementation of its foreign policy, defined by President Vladimir Putin and which, judging by polls, has wide support of citizens.

On November 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a joint statement on the complete cessation of military operations in Nagorno-Karabakh. According to the Russian leader, Azerbaijani and Armenian sides stop at occupied positions and Russian peacekeepers will be deployed in the region.
