Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov expressed his disagreement with those who consider the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to be an ineffective organization.
"I cannot agree that ASEAN is an ineffective structure. If you take an interest and look at the documents that ASEAN adopts for themselves, you will see a very rich program of concrete projects in various areas of human daily activities and promising developments that reflect trends in science, technology, industry, climate protection, and more," Lavrov stated during a press conference on Thursday.
Lavrov highlighted that similar documents are also adopted when "ASEAN engages with its partners during East Asian summits and the ASEAN Regional Security Forum." He acknowledged that these projects may not receive widespread media attention as they involve practical and discreet work.
