The international community must actively cooperate with Afghanistan's new authorities, encouraging steps toward its recognition by all UN members, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Thursday at a meeting with Amir Khan Muttaqi, Foreign Minister in the Taliban (banned in the Russian Federation) formed government of Afghanistan.
"We are convinced that the international community must actively cooperate with the new Afghan government, encouraging steps towards its official recognition by the UN and all its participants," he said.
He added that in this sense, the key component in the Afghan government should be inclusiveness not only at the ethno-confessional level, but also in the involvement of other political forces. Lavrov also pointed to the priority of the humanitarian component.
"We will welcome dialogue within the country under Taliban rule. And, of course, humanitarian assistance is a priority at this stage, the international community should actively contribute to actions in this direction," he said. Lavrov also recalled that the Russian delegation recently visited Kabul. "It was a useful visit. Ways of our further interaction were discussed and, I hope, they will be supported by both sides," he added.
