Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud discussed the situation in Ukraine by phone on Wednesday, the Russian minister expressed gratitude to his Saudi counterpart for Riyadh's efforts to find ways to resolve the Ukrainian crisis, the Russian MFA said in a statement.
"Sergey Lavrov briefed Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud on certain aspects of the situation in Ukraine in terms of Russia's special military operation. In this regard, the Russian side expressed its gratitude to the leadership of Saudi Arabia for its constructive position and willingness to make efforts to find ways to resolve the complex problems related to developments in Ukraine," the ministry reported.
In addition, the foreign ministers discussed priority issues of the progressive development of mutually beneficial multifaceted cooperation between Russia and Saudi Arabia in line with the implementation of agreements reached earlier at the highest level. "Special attention was paid to the need to continue constructive cooperation within the OPEC+ format," the Russian MFA noted.
"The proximity of the two countries' positions on topical issues of the regional and global agenda was noted. The two countries confirmed their mutual interest in maintaining close foreign policy coordination both in the bilateral format and on various international platforms," the Russian MFA added.
