Lavrov: Russia Aims to Harmonize External Efforts for Sudan Settlement

07 June

Russia is keen on achieving an early resolution to the conflict in Sudan and aims to synchronize the efforts of external players towards its settlement, stated Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during a meeting with Malik Agar, Deputy Chairman of the Sovereign Council of Sudan, on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

"We hope that you will provide the latest assessments of the situation in your country during our conversation. We are very interested in ending the conflict as soon as possible and returning to a nationwide dialogue focused on all possible cooperation," Lavrov expressed.

Reflecting on their previous meeting in Moscow a year ago, Lavrov noted that the situation had significantly changed since then. "Currently, there are influential external players who are not working in unison. We want to harmonize their efforts to prevent any internal Sudanese factions from being tempted to continue the conflict," he added.

Agar expressed gratitude for the meeting and the importance of maintaining strong ties with Russia. "We are here because we recognize the significance of these contacts. We are interested in strengthening our long-standing friendly relations with Russia," he said.
