Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov highlighted the positive prospects for cooperation between Russia and the countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in the field of food and energy security. During the Russia-ASEAN meeting, Lavrov emphasized the shared priorities of expanding and strengthening multifaceted cooperation between the two sides.
Lavrov highlighted the intensive development of contacts between foreign policy agencies and national security councils.
"New initiatives such as digitalization of the economy and the development of smart cities are included on the agenda. There are promising areas of cooperation in food and energy security as well as education," said Lavrov opening the Russia-ASEAN meeting.
Moscow remains committed to "consolidating the ASEAN-centric architecture, which serves as the foundation for security and sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region."
"This approach may not be favored by everyone, but Russia is guided by the objective goal of maintaining peace and stability in the vast region," Lavrov concluded.
