Russia and Uzbekistan demonstrate the coincidence or great proximity of positions on many issues of the international agenda, including on Afghanistan, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Thursday, opening talks with Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov.
"We note with satisfaction the coincidence or great proximity of our positions on the main areas of the global, regional agenda. That fully applies to the situation in Afghanistan, which we are actively dealing with," the minister said.
Lavrov reminded that in 2022 Russia and Uzbekistan will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. "We cherish the fundamental principles that underlie these ties - the principles of alliance, strategic partnership. They have stood the test of time and demonstrate high dynamics on all fronts," the Russian foreign minister said.
According to him, trade turnover between the countries is growing at an impressive pace, the industrial cooperation is vigorously being developed and the cooperation in innovation and high technology is getting stronger. Russia and Uzbekistan are engaged in rich interregional and inter-sectoral cooperation, while joint projects in educational, cultural and humanitarian spheres draw intense interest from citizens of the two countries.
