Russia will persist in its efforts to facilitate the resumption of direct negotiations between Palestine and Israel, as this remains the sole pathway for implementing the decisions made by the United Nations, stated Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
"We will persist in our efforts to facilitate the resumption of direct negotiations between Palestine and Israel. This remains the sole pathway for implementing the decisions made by the United Nations," he stated during a press conference following discussions with Tunisian Foreign Minister Nabil Ammar.
In this context, the Russian foreign minister emphasized the challenge of achieving "lasting improvements across the entire Middle East region" without addressing the Palestinian matter "in accordance with established international legal principles."
Furthermore, Palestinian Ambassador to Moscow Abdel Hafiz Nofal cautioned that the Palestinian-Israeli conflict possesses the potential to escalate into a religious war, underscoring its extreme danger.
Additionally, Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas during his address at the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, called upon the international organization to fulfill its responsibilities toward the Palestinian people and advocated for the convening of a Middle East peace conference involving all relevant stakeholders. This conference, he proposed, should aim to resolve the Palestinian issue based on UN resolutions.
