Russia will not take any measures until the aggravation of the situation in Afghanistan has no impact on the territories of Moscow's allies, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Friday at a press conference following talks with Indian Foreign Minister Subramaniam Jaishankar.
"As for the ongoing hostilities in the absence of a political process, what is going on in Afghanistan worries us solely from the point of view of the possible spillover of trouble into the territory of our allies," he said. - "The Taliban have set up checkpoints on the border with Iran, on the border with Tajikistan ... as long as this is happening within Afghanistan, we are not going to take any action other than to repeat our insistent calls for a political process, which all Afghans have paid lip service to, as soon as possible."
Earlier, the TOLOnews TV channel, citing the acting head of the local customs service, reported that militants of the radical Taliban movement (banned in Russia) had taken control of the checkpoints on the borders with Iran and Turkmenistan, both in Herat province.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the Taliban control about two-thirds of Afghanistan's border with Tajikistan.
