Lavrov: The US hypocritically accuses Russia, forgetting about its own invasions of other countries

03 October 2022

The United States hypocritically accuses Russia of an allegedly unprovoked attack on Ukraine, preferring to overlook its own use of military force in various regions of the world, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Monday at a plenary session of the State Duma.

"By accusing Russia directly of unprovoked aggression against Ukraine, the United States hypocritically claims that we allegedly cover up with an imaginary threat our attack on a neighboring country, which, they say, has taken the path of democracy," Lavrov said. He pointed out that Washington has always been ready to use force "under far-fetched pretexts" anywhere in the world, justifying itself by the need to protect the lives and well-being of American citizens.

Lavrov recalled the US invasion of Haiti, the Dominican Republic, the occupation of Panama, the wars in Vietnam, Yugoslavia, Iraq and Libya. " The UN General Assembly resolutions that condemned these and other aggressive actions of the United States were simply ignored by the Americans," the Russian foreign minister emphasized.
