Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will speak on Wednesday at the governmental hour of the plenary session of the State Duma and discuss with MPs the main directions of the country's foreign policy and the current international situation.
The previous event of this kind was held on January 26, 2022. Back then, a month before the start of the special military operation in Ukraine, the Russian foreign minister warned that the West was in a "military frenzy" and wanted a real provocation in this country. In addition, the minister drew attention to profound yet negative changes in global affairs.
As Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova earlier emphasized, Lavrov's annual meetings with parliamentarians help improve interaction between the executive and legislative branches, exchange views on the current international situation, and outline ways to advance Russia's unified foreign policy course through joint efforts.
Following his speech, the minister will traditionally answer questions from the deputies on topical issues of the international agenda. It is worth expecting that special attention will be paid to the special operation in Ukraine.
The minister is also likely to talk about the main trends in Russian foreign policy over the past year, in particular Moscow's reorientation towards developing relations with friendly countries in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America. It is possible that during his speech Lavrov will also outline the main vectors of Russia's foreign policy, which will be reflected in the new version of the relevant concept.
