Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, at a meeting with Prime Minister and Crown Prince of Bahrain Salman bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa on Tuesday, thanked the Bahraini side for the opportunity to talk about the reasons behind the start of the Russian special operation in Ukraine.
"I am grateful for the opportunity given to me by His Majesty [King of Bahrain Sheikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa], you and our other friends to talk about how the decision to launch the military special operation matured in hindsight," the Russian foreign minister said. He said that Russia suggested that NATO should sign an agreement in 2009 that would guarantee security for all countries, both alliance members and non-members. However, Lavrov said, the initiative was rejected.
"It is a serious responsibility for us to meet in times like these. Every minute is precious," the Crown Prince of Bahrain pointed out. - "We hope that we can be productive countries, helping to end the suffering of all peoples, not only in the region but around the world. Because this conflict has a global impact. We don't want to be the country that adds fuel to the fire".
