The exchange of fire took place on Wednesday morning in the 3rd District of Kabul and lasted for several hours. It was reported by a local TV channel TOLO News, citing a representative of the security forces in Kabul.
According to him, unidentified people opened fire on law enforcement officers from a multi-story building in the Karte-Ye-Sakhi neighborhood. The building is now surrounded by security forces, and a clearing operation is underway. There has been no information about casualties on either side so far.
According to Aśvaka news agency, the reason for the shooting was the attempt of several members of the Islamic State (IS, banned in Russia) to attack the Karte-Ye-Sakhi mosque, which was followed by clashes between extremists and security forces in Kabul.
Representatives of the Taliban (banned in the Russian Federation) have not yet commented on the incident.
