Units belonging to the Palestinian Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip initiated gunfire towards Israeli tanks that had obstructed the north-south highway in the Salah al-Din area. This information was relayed by Al Ikhbariya TV channel, citing a statement from the al-Qassam Brigades, the military arm of Hamas.
The statement asserts that Israeli armored vehicles did not manage to advance into the city center. "Several tanks and a bulldozer were present on the highway, but withdrew after coming under fire," as mentioned in the report.
Earlier, the AFP news agency, with reference to eyewitness accounts, reported the presence of an Israeli tank column on the outskirts of Gaza City. Witnesses noted that these armored vehicles had blocked the primary road connecting the northern and southern regions of the Gaza Strip.
