Iranian authorities relocated an armored division to the border with Afghanistan. This was reported by the Afghan news agency Aamaj News on Tuesday.
It is specified that the 88th Armored Division was sent to the border. This decision was made ostensibly for security reasons because of the recent incidents near the border points Doqarun (Iran) - Islam Qala (Afghanistan).
There has been no official confirmation or denial of this information by Tehran yet.
On April 23, a conflict between border guards at the checkpoint arose, which led to a temporary closure of the border crossing from the Iranian side. According to Tasnim News Agency, Taliban (Taliban movement, banned in the Russian Federation) began to build a road near Islam Qala. Iranian border guards interfered and stopped the works, reportedly because they had no official confirmation of the agreement to lay a new road in the border area.
IRNA news agency reports that the work has now stopped and representatives of the two countries' authorities are preparing to discuss the issue. The Doqarun checkpoint is one of the most important trade routes between Iran and Afghanistan.
