Iran has issued a warning to the Arab states of the Persian Gulf, holding them responsible if they provide military support or allow the use of their airspace by Israel in a potential Israeli retaliatory strike following Iran's recent missile attack.
"Iran has made it clear that any actions by Gulf states against Tehran, whether through the use of airspace or military bases, will be viewed by Tehran as collective actions, and Iran will respond accordingly. Any assistance to Israel, including permitting the use of airspace for operations against Iran, is unacceptable," a senior Iranian official told Reuters.
According to the official, Iran delivered this warning during a visit by the Islamic Republic's President, Masoud Pezeshkian, to Qatar on October 3. The issue will also be a topic of discussion during Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi's upcoming talks in Saudi Arabia.
"The message emphasized the need for regional unity in standing against Israel and the importance of ensuring stability," the source added. He also noted that Tehran has not raised the issue of Gulf states increasing their oil production in the event that Iranian oil facilities are damaged by a potential Israeli strike.
A Western diplomat stationed in the region confirmed to Reuters that Tehran had issued such a warning. He added that Iran would closely monitor the reactions of each Gulf state to any Israeli attack, particularly the activities at US bases located in these countries. The agency notes that the US has military installations or forces stationed in Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia.
