Media: Israel launched a missile attack on Iranian air defense installations near Damascus

15 April 2022

The Israeli air force attacked on Friday night on the outskirts of Damascus, where Iranian air defense installations and radars were deployed the other day. According to Al Hadath TV channel broadcasting from Dubai, the strikes also targeted a military convoy delivering a shipment of Iranian drones to the base of the Shia Hezbollah units that are fighting on the side of the Syrian army.

Eyewitnesses reported that several powerful explosions were heard on the southwestern outskirts of the capital.

Earlier, the SANA news agency reported, citing a military source, that Syria's air defense forces opened fire at 23:02 Moscow time on aerial targets in the skies over Damascus. According to its sources, Syrian anti-aircraft defenses struck several enemy missiles. "As a result of the aggressive action on the part of Israel there was material damage, there were no losses among Syrian soldiers and civilians," the source noted.

On April 9, Syrian air defense forces repelled an Israeli missile attack in the skies over the provincial center of Hama (220 km from Damascus). The strikes were launched from Lebanese airspace. The IAF targeted pro-Iranian Shia militia ammunition depots, an unmanned aerial vehicle assembly facility and a missile development center in Masyaf.

According to the Naharnet portal, the attack on Hama province was Israel's eighth aggressive action against Syria since the beginning of the year.

Arab Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad, in a message sent to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, stressed that "Syria reserves the legal right to respond to Israeli missile attacks at the appropriate moment".
