Mufti of Damascus Sheikh Mohammed Adnan al-Afyuni was killed by a bomb planted in his car, the SANA agency reported on Thursday.
According to its information, the attack occurred in a suburb of the Syrian capital Qudsiya.
"Sheikh al-Afyuni was the victim of a treacherous terrorist attack," the Awqaf Ministry said in a statement. It notes that the deceased mufti was a prominent theologian and fighter against religious extremism.
