29 April 2022

Israeli police on Friday morning used crowd control equipment to quell riots outside the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. This was reported by the Kan radio station.

According to the radio station, hundreds of rioters fired fireworks and threw stones at police during the clashes, and police responded with tear gas and rubber bullets. Kan reports, citing Palestinian medical services, that at least ten Arabs were injured. During the clashes, several masked participants raised the flag of the radical Palestinian Hamas movement ruling the Gaza Strip, the radio station reported.

"Hundreds of Palestinian rioters broke out this morning in the area of the al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount. Police were forced up the mountain to disperse the violent crowd and allow participants in the morning prayers to leave safely," the Israeli Foreign Ministry press office reported.

Kan reports that police forces in Jerusalem are on high alert for clashes and riots in Jerusalem on the last Friday of Ramadan. The situation in Jerusalem's Old City escalated on April 15 after a group of Jewish pilgrims visited the Temple Mount.
